Review: Clear Conscience Multi-Purpose Solution

When I first got contacts, I didn't give a second thought to what contact solution I used. Then I became a vegetarian, and I started learning about animal testing. I began to reevaluate all my personal care products. While cruelty-free contact solution isn't readily available at your neighborhood drugstore or superstore (yet), it does exist. There is a wonderful company called Clear Conscience dedicated to cruelty-free contact solution.

Pros:
  • A little goes a long way (12 oz. lasts me just over a month)
  • Sterilized without radiation
  • Convenient all-in-one solution
  • Cruelty-free, thimerosal-free, and FDA approved
  • The only solution I've found that doesn't test on animals!
  • Widely available in health food stores
  • Competitively priced
  • Recyclable packaging and bottles
Cons:
  • Currently only available in the U.S.
Summary:
I commend Clear Conscience for filling a valuable niche: cruelty-free eyecare. The cleaning process is simple and easy. I had no trouble switching over to this solution and was proud to order my first case. When ordering in bulk, each bottle is just under $8 each and one bottle lasts me over a month! It feels great supporting a company who is not only cruelty-free, but also donates 10% of proceeds donated to animal welfare and environmental organizations. I have found my new contact solution.

For those concerned about travel, this all-in-one solution makes it simple. It is even offered in a 3 oz. travel size. If I could offer a suggestion for improvement, I'd love to see a packaging update so it stands out more at the store. I probably would've switched much sooner if I had known such a fantastic product existed.

Please note: I have sensitive eyes, and I had no trouble switching to this solution. However, if you do have any issues, you may consider rinsing with a preservative-free saline solution before inserting the contacts. Just be aware that the saline will likely not be cruelty-free (but, in my opinion, it's worth it to at least switch to the cruelty-free cleaning solution if you can). If you're still having issues with sensitive eyes and a restless conscience, there is always the option of wearing glasses more often or even full-time.
