Review: Apple Pie Larabar

If I were to make my own fruit and nut bars, they would probably be full of fruit and nuts and little else. In other words, they would look pretty much like a Larabar. While I've tried a variety of flavors, one of my favorite vegan bars is the Apple Pie flavor.

Pros:
  • Very simple ingredients
  • Gluten free, vegan, and soy free
  • Crunchy nuts and chewy fruit
  • Available in many retail stores
  • Relatively affordable (around $1 on sale)
Cons:
  • Fairly high in fruit sugars
Summary:
Apple Pie Larabars are a tasty snack. They are surprisingly delicious considering the small number of ingredients. I especially love the raisins and walnuts, which are also some of my favorite additions to muffins and cookies. The only item of note is that the dried fruit can bring up the sugar content, although it doesn't have added sugars (a big plus in my book). While I appreciate the affordable price and retail availability, it would be great to see an organic variety of Larabars as well. Overall, these are a tasty, healthy snack that I'd recommend to almost anyone.

Also available on Amazon.com.

Nutrition Highlights:
180 calories, 4g protein, 17g sugar

Note to Vegans:
Most Larabars are vegan, but those that contain chocolate chips may contain dairy.
