Review: LUSH Dirty Springwash Shower Gel

My boyfriend is picky when it comes to soap and shower gel scents. "I don't like anything that smells like food," he says, "it's just weird." I think he's the weird one, as I love citrus, vanilla, and other scents. But maybe if I were a guy, I'd feel different.

I was excited to receive a sample of the minty/pine scented Dirty Springwash Shower Gel from LUSH. I tried it out myself, but soon surrendered my sample to my boyfriend. He loved the minty/pine scent and asked for more.

Pros:
  • Minty scent is suitable for men and women
  • Can also be used as a shampoo
  • A little goes a long way
  • Fragrance was a favorite of my man
  • Lathers well
Cons:
  • Contains ingredients such as propylene glycol and methylparaben
Summary:
I love the philosophy behind LUSH, as they work to reduce packaging and literally show you the faces behind each product. They are a cruelty-free company with a wide selection of vegan products. However, their products tend to be a little more expensive than others (Dirty Springwash starts at $9.95 for 3.3 oz). Lush stores are in many cities, but those who mail order will have to pay additional fees for shipping.

I enjoyed the performance of the Dirty Springwash, but I was surprised to see certain ingredients on the label. In particular, the ingredients fragrance and methylparaben helped contribute to an EWG safety rating of 6, which is fairly high for a "natural" product. I'd recommend reevaluating some of these ingredients to make this even safer. However, it's nice to see a shower gel with a nice scent for men and women alike.
