Ask Kaylin: Vegan Makeup Recommendations

Facebook member Mew reached out to me for some makeup recommendations. Read on for the message and my response.

Mew:
Kaylin, can you help me? I am looking for a good liquid foundation, face powder, eyeliner pencil and liquid eyeliner. I'd like them to be long-lasting. What do you recommend? I don't want anything with bad toxins or carcinogens in my make up. I'm trying to be vegan and eat only organic. Thank you.

Kaylin:
I'm glad to hear that you are making the leap to an organic vegan lifestyle. I have found it to be rewarding and healthy, and I'd be happy to help recommend products for you. Not all of them are organic, but they are vegan, gentle, and perform well.

One of my favorite liquid foundations is by Zuzu Luxe. It has SPF in it and it a gentle formula that wears well throughout the day. Like other foundations, it gets more staying power if you use a primer. You can also use aloe vera gel if you want something gentle and vegan.

To set your foundation, you can use a tinted face power (for better coverage) such as the complimentary collection by Zuzu. You can also use a more sheer finishing powder, especially if you plan to reapply throughout the day to keep shine away. Rejuva Minerals has a very gentle Multi Task Powder in a universal shade, or you could try something like Afterglow Cosmetics Setting Powder (especially in their translucent shade).

While there are many great eyeliner pencils on the market, the gentlest eyeliner pencils are not the longest-lasting. If you want a very gentle pencil, you can try Rejuva Mineral Eye Crayon. For a liquid eyeliner, I'd recommend Zuzu's Liquid Eyeliner, which tends to last longer than gentle pencil liners.

Best of luck with your makeup adventures!
