Review: Acure Organics Oil Control Facial Moisturizer

I was fortunate to breeze through high school with a clear complexion. Then, when I hit college, I had some trouble with blemishes. It was never anything drastic, but it was enough that I needed to actually start a skin care routine. I thought my face would clear up as an adult, but I still have occasional breakouts, especially if I'm not diligent about washing my face.

Fortunately, with the proper skin care products, my face clears up in no time. One of the most important components of my routine is a great moisturizer that will help balance the oils in my skin. I've been loyal to one or two over the years, but they just might have a new rival in town: Acure Organics Oil Control Facial Moisturizer.

Pros:
  • A little goes a long way
  • Pleasant scent from essential oils
  • Mostly organic ingredients
  • Absorbs quickly
  • Won't clog pores
Cons:
  • This specific product might not be available locally
Summary:
I really enjoyed using this moisturizer. The formula is fairly thick, so a regular tube will last quite a while. I tend to apply a more generous application at night, as the excess moisture leaves my face soft by the morning. If I'm using this under makeup, I just apply a light layer for the day. Essentially, a light application absorbs quickly, but if you use more, it works well for a night treatment.

I was really happy to see how Acure goes to great lengths to offer full disclosure on ingredients and sources. Most of the ingredients in this moisturizer are organic, and several are also Fair Trade Certified. Don't be surprised by what may look at first like a long ingredients list - this moisturizer rates a very low 1 on EWG's Skin Deep database.

Also, I really love the packaging and presentation of the Acure line. These bottles are pretty enough to display on your counter and the packaging is made from recycled sources. Yes, the price is higher than your average drugstore product, but Acure seems like a company that is actually putting your money to good use, by ethically-sourcing their products, using organic ingredients, and participating in initiatives such as carbon neutral production. Honestly, I'm glad that they offer their products at a moderate price range, instead of charging a luxury premium.

While Acure products are available in a variety of retail stores, you may need to order online for specific products, such as this moisturizer.  If you're looking for a facial moisturizer for combination to oily skin, I highly recommend Acure's Oil Control Facial Moisturizer.
