Restaurant Review: Oceanside's Hill Street Cafe

Vegan soup with Apple and Carrot Juice
My mother lives in the San Diego area, and we love to check out fun vegan-friendly restaurants when I visit. She suggested trying a place called Hill Street Cafe, a cozy eatery in a Victorian home. I was feeling a little under the weather when we went, and the huge selection on the menu made this an easy choices since I was craving something simple, vegan, and tasty.

Pros:
  • Certified green restaurant
  • Huge selection to please almost any appetite
  • Vegan choices clearly marked
  • Unique and cozy atmosphere
  • Reasonable prices
  • Open early (7 a.m.)
Cons:
  • Limited parking (street)
Summary:
Hill Street Cafe isn't strictly vegan, but they offer a huge range of food that will satisfy anyone from meat-eaters to raw foodists. I loved how the vegan options were clearly marked and how the food was fresh and simple. I ordered a soup with rice, beans, and veggies, and you can see from the picture above that it was exploding with color. The prices were reasonable and we got to eat in a lovely, bright dining area. It is located on the South Coast Highway in Oceanside, so parking is on the street. I especially appreciated how it is a certified green restaurant that uses organic produce when available, recycles, composts, and refuses to use styrofoam. If you're looking for a low-key place that will please a variety of palates, Hill Street Cafe is a fun choice.
