Review: Josie Maran Magic Marker Lip and Cheek Stain

We've all tried glosses, lip sticks, and tinted lip balms, but have you ever tried a lip stain? I certainly hadn't, until I received one in the mail from Josie Maran. Her Magic Marker Lip and Cheek Stain looks like an actual marker but don't be confused - this one is actually meant for your face, not your sketchpad.

Pros:
  • Light, natural-looking color
  • Not sticky or waxy
  • Precise applicator
  • Light plumping effect
  • Gentle ingredients
Cons:
  • Harder to blend once applied
Summary:
This stain is a fun twist on lip color. I love how easy it is to get a precise line, and how quickly it sinks into my skin. The color looks very natural, not sticky or overdone like some other products. If you want more bold color, you can apply more for a deeper stain. It's kiss-friendly, too - it doesn't gum up lips like some glosses. The formula is vegan and fairly gentle, coming in at a low 3 on EWG's Skin Deep database. There is a nice selection of colors with fun, dance-themed names. I'd just recommend keeping your lip balm handy; this isn't as hydrating as something like a tinted lip balm. The only other drawback I found is that it sinks in fairly quickly, so I got a smoother application on my lips than on my cheeks. If you're looking for light, natural color, this stain is a fun way to get it.
