Vegan TBLT Sandwich |
Pros:
- Beautiful atmosphere
- Great vegan and gluten-free options
- Many healthy choices
- Vegan baked goods available
- Nice enough for special meals out
- Can have long waits at peak times
The Steeping Room has many great menu options, and some of my favorite are the vegan version of the TBLT and the Buddha Bowl. In particular, the Buddha Bowl is a great choice because I get two full meals out of it. It is also well-balanced nutritionally and leave me feeling great. A less healthy favorite of mine if the vegan chocolate cupcake, an item which I've come in to pick up when I'm craving a nice dessert. Of all the cupcakes in Austin, it's hard to beat the Steeping Room's vegan chocolate. It is delectably moist, has just the right amount of frosting, and is big enough to share. The menu is priced slightly higher than other sit-down restaurants, but the quality of the food makes it a good value, especially if you take half your meal home.
Aside from the food, the atmosphere is beautiful. The Domain location has a wall almost completely covered in windows, so the restaurant is filled with natural light. The decor is lovely and it has an airy feel despite being situated in a relatively small space. Be sure to make reservations for weekend brunch, unless you are willing to wait. To note, the Domain location is set near several nice stores and they will call you when a table is available, so waiting isn't too troublesome unless you're starving. I've received great service here and the wait staff tend to be knowledgeable and accommodating, particularly to the needs of those on vegan and gluten-free diets. If you're looking for a nice place to eat with health vegetarian and gluten-free options, it's hard to be The Steeping Room.
